Seun Onigbine co-founder of BudgIT and an open data analyst has been caught up in a social media storm Friday after facts emerged that he has accepted an appointment with the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Onigbinde who has been a virulent critic of the President and his government was appointed as Technical Adviser in the Minister of Budget and National Planning (under the enlarged Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning).

Sensing a direct backlash on his Twitter handle or in a bid to hide some of his harsh criticisms of the administration in the past he deactivated his account; apparently after he got the appointment. This has made supporters of the President to question his integrity wondering if his criticism was to attract attention and get public appointment.

Earlier in June, supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) rejected and criticised the appointment of Festus Adedayo as Special Adviser to the President of the Senate Dr. Ahmad Lawan. The stirring rejection forced Lawan to withdraw the appointment. Party loyalists argue that appointing persons into positions who are not passionate about their party may lead to sabotage of government programmes.
