The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has sacked a member of the House of Representatives and ministerial nominee from Imo State, Honourable Emeka Nwajiuba.
It declared Chike Okafor of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the election and validly elected member to represent Ehime Mbano/Obowo/Ihittee Uboma Federal Constituency of Imo State.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Okafor as the winner of the election and issued him a certificate of return. But, the Federal Capital Territory High Court nullified the election and pronounced Nwajiuba of the Accord Party (AP) as winner of the election.
The appellate court’s verdict is coming 14 days to the inauguration of the ministers-designate. Nwajiuba is one of the 43 ministers-designate whose nominations had been confirmed by the Senate. Like others, he is only waiting to be sworn-in and assigned a portfolio.
