Nigeria Customs Service personnel early this morning blocked a popular hotel Fraser Suites near Square in the Central Business Area of Abuja.
The officers went further and invaded the hotel, going from room to room and asking lodgers to come outside to identify their cars.

A source in the hotel told Politicos that the hotel which is popular with international guests had them block foreign diplomats who are guest-lodgers. Also Nigerian military officers were similarly prevented from exiting.
No guest was allowed to go in or come out including friends of guests who are lodging in the place.

“They are harassing guests and ordering they wake up from sleep to identify their cars. Such barbaric actions have never been seen even during Abacha days,” a source cried.
NCS together with sister agencies initiated a joint operation over a month ago to tackle smuggling. This has led to the closure of Nigeria’s borders with Benin Republic and Niger Republic.
In a related development, there were reports last week of the raiding and closure of some car shops in Lagos.
