Flash: 70 Arrested In South Africa Over Xenophobic Attacks

South African Police has arrested at least 70 persons who are suspected to have participated in the killings, arson and riots in that country in the last two days.

Bobby Monroe South African High Commissioner to Nigeria stated this while addressing the media in company with the Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs Geoffrey Onyeama in Abuja on Tuesday. The High Commissioner also said six policemen who allegedly killed a Nigerian in a previous incident have been arrested.

He said the police authorities in his country have taken steps to take charge of the areas that have witnessed disturbances.

“We will not allow anarchy to become the order of the day,” read parts of a statement issued by the South African government. They also said that some of the videos in circulation on the social media over the attacks are not recent. He said some were off events of 2008.
