The venue of the Ogun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Abeokuta has witnessed heavy presence of security personnel including the police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Department of State Services (DSS) who had cordoned off the area.
The verdict on a petition filed by the candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) Adekunle Akinlade and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and Governor of the State Dapo Abiodun is awaited any moment from now. As early as 6:00am on Saturday, at the entrance of the Ogun state magistrate court, Isabo, Abeokuta, venue of the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal people had begun to fill the place.
There was no Vehicular movement within and around the court premises, even pedestrians who were seen trekking between Isabo to Kuto were screened.
The Isabo-Oke-Bode junction leading to the court premises was blocked with presence of armed security guard and the Kuto-Amolasho road that leads to the court was also blocked with Armoured tank Carrier.
This development is a clear indication that the security agencies were prepared to forestall any eventuality or disturbances that may arise between political supporters at the court.
It will be recalled that violence dogged the pre-election campaign between these two parties because of the acrimonious nature of the candidates’ emergence. Both politicians were members of the APC before ambition tore them apart. In one of the incidents, President Muhammadu Buhari was stoned in Abeokuta by suspected members of the APM.
