An attempt by a group of unknown gunmen to burn down a police station in Onitsha, Anambra State has been thwarted.
Eyewitnesses say the gunmen had arrived the station in the early hours of Sunday and attempted to execute their plot to set alight the station when they were confronted by security operatives.
The gunmen were confronted by police men led by the state commissioner Echeng Echeng.
Five of the suspects were taken down after exchange of gun fire. Two AK 47 rifles were recovered. Also recovered is a Toyota Sienna operational vehicle.
