Just In: Army, Riot Police Take Over Venue Of #RevolutionNow in Lagos

*Soldiers…on guard
*The security men…on duty

The take-off point of the planned protest against the Federal
Government in Lagos, the National Stadium, Surulere, has been taken over
by riot Policemen and personnel of the Nigerian Army. The protest, which was supposed to be led by Omoyele
Sowore, is meant to force government to implement policies that will
benefit Nigerians as insecurity and poverty worsen, according to the
organizers.

Controversy has trailed the convening of the protest since Sowore
hinted that it is going to be a revolution rather than normal protest.
He said that his protest was going to initiate regime change and sack
elected officials across the country after which new set of leaders
shall be enthroned. It is planed to hold in 21 cities across Nigeria.

Sowore, who was the presidential candidate of the African Alliance Congress (AAC) in
the February election, has since been arrested by State Security
Service (SSS) who are set to charge him to court for treason-related
offenses.

There were a handful of protesters, mostly young people at the front
of the stadium carrying placards with different anti-government
inscriptions.Early reports across the country indicate a slow start
for the protests as security appears to have been beefed up.
