Lagos Warns Residents To Stop Attacking Firemen

Lagos State Government has asked residents to desist from assaulting officials of the Fire Service or face prosecution.

The state also warned against destruction of fire trucks and other public properties.

This follows an attack lauded on firemen on Friday at Sam Shonibare street in Surulere which left one of the officials injured.

A statement issued by Assistant Director, Public Affairs, Adeleke-Ashimi Muinat, the acting Fire Service Director Margaret Adeseye condemned the attack by hoodlums which also shattered the right door passenger side window and cracked the left driver side windscreen of their truck.

“The state observed with dismay, the attacks of its officials, damaging of Fire Engines and obstruction of same from carrying out their official duties by unidentified hoodlums.

“The  gallant officers and equipment  responded to distress call and were carrying out statutory duties when they were attacked by hoodlums at the scene of fire outbreak.

“An officer was affected by the chattered side screen. In order to prevent confrontation and breakdown of law and order, the officials retreated and reported at Surulere Police Division, Area C,” she said.

The fire boss reminded residents that public properties were acquired with tax money for the safety of the masses, warning that the more vehicles that are destroyed, the less performance the agency can render during inferno.
