Nigerians show their creativity and love for country as they celebrate the nation’s 59th National Day. Nigeria got her Independence from Britain on October 1, 1960. Nnamdi Azikiwe was the country’s last Governor-General and first President, while Tafawa Balewa was the Prime Minister.
At Independence Nigeria had the Eastern, Western and Northern regions as opposed to 36 states as we presently have. And the country operated a parliamentary system of government as against the presidential system of today.
