The National and State Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Kaduna, Kaduna State has dismissed the petition of Senator Shehu Sani of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) challenging the declaration of Uba Sani of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the February 23 National Assembly election into Kaduna Central Senatorial District.
The tribunal dismissed the petition “for lacking in merit”.
Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice A. H. Suleiman in a two-hour judgment on Wednesday described the sitting as successful based on evidences presented to the tribunal.
Speaking on the verdict of the tribunal, lead counsel to Senator Uba Sani, Barrister Frank Ikpe, said the tribunal upheld the election of his client based on the evidence before it.
However, if unsatisfied, PRP’s Sani can appeal the judgment to the Court of Appeal which is the final court on National Assembly election petitions.
