Sheraton Evacuates Guests After Tanker Explosion Near Hotel


An explosion that occured before midnight has left some vehicles and properties severly burnt in Ikeja, Lagos state.

Also several persons were said to have sustained injuries following the incident. A tanker reportedly bearing gas exploded at the OPIC plaza where several businesses and restaurants are located.

Also, Sheraton Lagos was forced to evacuate it’s guests when the fire raged on. The hotel just like a Total filling station share fence on each side of the plaza. All the facilities are located along Mobolaji Bank Anthony way in Ikeja.

According to eyewitnesses, the impact of the explosion was equally felt inside buildings in the government reserved area (GRA) which is directly opposite the scene of the incident.

It is not yet clear what caused the tanker to explode.

Officers of the fire service have however put out the fire and brought the situation under control several hours later.

Also, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and security operatives led by the Commissioner of Police Hakeem Odumosu were present at the scene.
